SHIBANXI
We visited this unique little railway in the Spring of 2011, when the rapeseed was in full bloom. The railway is the lifeline of the villages it serves, with little road access, virtually everything must travel by train. Chinese tourists from Chengdu flock to the area at weekends, and many tourist trains run, with all servicable C2 0-8-0's operating. Along with the regular passenger trains and coal trains this can make the railway very busy. We'll also see the lower section of the line, with little electrics on coal trains, visit the workshops and take a ride on the train.

THE POKEY - ELKHORN GRADE
Norfolk Southern's Pocahontas District recently had clearances raised for double stacks as part of the Heartland Project. Elkhorn grade between Bluefield and Iaeger is the steepest part of the Pokey, giving even NS's latest SD70ACe's a workout with heavy coal trains as they wind through the valleys and through the small towns of West Virginia. This is helper country, with two to three units pushing heavy trains up the grades.

HOT SPOTS 27 - POINT OF ROCKS
CSX's Metropolitan Sub to Washington and the Old Main Line to Baltimore diverge at Point of Rocks, Maryland. MARC commuter trains use the station, and Amtrak's Capitol Limited passes through daily. SOUTH BALTIMORE
In May of 1992 we ventured to CSX trackage south of baltimore in search of MARC F units. In addition to MARC & CSX F's, we saw MARC RDC's and an E unit, and lots of different CSX paint, from gray GP30 slugs to new C40-8W's, from B&O blue through Chessie and Family Lines, plus Conrail, Susie Q and Norfolk Southern. Taped around Mount Winans, HX Tower, relay and Thomas Viaduct. Taped with early equipment, the quality is not as good as our later high definition equipment, but you can't see this stuff any more!

We take a look at Barnetby, one of Britains hottest spots for freight. Trains from two oil refineries, scheduled iron ore to the steel mills at Scunthorpe, with returning empties, and coal trains, plus passenger trains make for a very busy location. Barnetby also still has impressive stands of semaphore signals, and is one of the last strongholds of class 60's. Next we visit York, with it's arched roof, and finally Doncaster on the electrified West Coast Main Line.

SOUTH AFRICAN STEAM - PATON'S COUNTRY RAILWAY
Paton's Country Railway operates the second oldest narrow gauge Beyer-Garratt locomotive in service in the world, 2-6-0 0-6-2 #55. Built in 1920, the locomotive worked most of it's life in the area. We'll see the engine being prepared for the days work, see the entire route from the train and see runby's on the way from Ixopo to Carisbrook, in Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, South Africa. The rain starts on the return journey, and we ride the little engine as she struggles up the grade, slipping constantly and leaking steam. Hear the thunderous exhaust as she fights to keep moving.

Although it starts in a grey day in March, 1998, this is a fascinating ride from Bakersfield to Barstow over Tehachapi Pass. Eight units power the Z NBYWSP-9, BNSF's hottest train, with C40-8W #861 on the point. The view is straight ahead from Caliente to Mojave, but with many roving camera shots, especially around the famous loop. The conductor provides information on the line to a trainee. The video was taped by Roy Knighton, a transportation specialist, who has ridden and taped on the head end of a number of trains.
